NYS PEF Capital District Region 8 Retiree President’s Message:
I don’t know, how it seems to you, but I cannot believe how quickly this year is flying by; Summer is gone and we’ve had our first Chapter meeting of the Fall and plans for our Holiday Lunch have begun.
I am very proud to be apart of our growing and thriving organization; attendance at our picnic this year, even in the rain, was over 135. I, sincerely, want to thank the other officer’s and our member volunteers, for all their hard work. We couldn’t do without them. Many hands make light work as the saying goes. If you haven’t attended before or just haven’t attended lately; Please, check our calendar & stop by a meeting & see what it’s all about. RSVP is requested to insure enough space & food.
With over 2,000 members here in the Capitol District, we have seen the need to be more
efficient with our communications due to the high cost of printing and postage. We will be
sending a annual newsletter with our Calendar of events in January and are working with PEF Reg
8 to establish our web pageat www.PEF8.org
I am pleased to report that I attended the National Alliance for Retired Americans Legislative Conference in Washington DC. As a part of the conference activities, I lobbied our Representatives Mike McNulty and Kristen Gillibrand and Senator H. Clinton on the passage of the CHAMP bill and much needed prescription drug reforms. I will share more on the Conference events at our PEF Retiree Chapter meeting in Oct.
The Capitol District Chapter of the ARA will be holding its Fall Conference on Thursday, Sept 27 at the NYSUT Bldg on Rte 7 in Latham. We have a few seats still available for our Chapter members. If you are interested contact me at 477-2913 by 9/19.
Finally, as you head to the polls this year, I hope you will consider the PEF locally endorsed candidates when you vote.
In Solidarity, Marje DeVoe

In response to the Governor’s veto, Senator Farley has sponsored S6457. ‘An act establishing the task force on retiree health insurance protection;.. Because the legislature finds that adequate and affordable health insurance coverage is a crucial issue for public sector retirees. State government actions have been inconsistent, protecting health insurance coverage for some groups of retirees pursuant to chapter 22 of the laws of 2007, while denying protection to others.’ The bill requires the 22 member task force to include two (2) representatives of public sector retirees. Your vote counts... Remember to VOTE on November 6
