Region 8 will sponsor Basic Steward Training on a quarterly basis in 2010 and we are looking forward to meeting all the new stewards.
The training is a full day experience with 5 modules offered. It is an excellent method to find out more about PEF. It is especially helpful to informing you about the duties of a steward.
The training is for newly elected stewards and those long-term stewards who have never been trained. Established stewards who feel they would benefit from a "refresher course" are also welcome. I will present Orientation first and module facilitators will be the Region 8 Field Representatives and the Statewide Training Specialist. Modules covered will be Many Roles of the Steward, Know Your Contract, Understanding the Grievance Procedure, and Discipline & Discharge. No EOL can be provided, but in the past the majority of agencies have given release time to attend this training. Feel free to approach your agency management on this issue and advise me if I may be of assistance. PEF cannot, however, compel agencies to provide leave.
As always, a light breakfast and lunch is provided.
We will be forced to cancel if the number of stewards responding is not adequate. Therefore, in order to plan for class size and food, you must be signed up a week prior to the dates above. Please contact Sandi Hunt at 785-1900, Ext. 215, or email shunt@pef.org to attend.
